Use for shavings? Walnut?

Hello all!

What do you all do with your shavings? I live in the woods, so sometimes I feel like it is ok to spread and let to rot. However, I like working with walnut and heard it can be hazardous to animals and plants? Is this true? I hate the thought of filling up the landfill with trashbags full of walnut shavings.

I use the shavings for fire starter for our and neighbors fire pits as well for campfires when camping.

Walnut contains a natural herbicide so only spread it where you don't want things to grow!
Also, walnut should not be used as bedding for hooved animals because it rots their hooves
