Wig Stand for Cancer Support By Kade Bolger

The following has been provided by Kade Bolger in response to our meeting request to provide more information about the wig stand project that he is currently involved in. Multiple club members were interested in knowing more.

Kade offered a free Zoom meeting on 12/5/2020, teaching how to make this stand. Unfortunately, we are past that date now, but, the need for wig stands has not passed. If you are interested, the following information came from the Keystone Woodturners site and can be used to make a wig stand that could help a cancer patient.

( If you prefer, you my go directly to the Keystonwoodturners.com website to see the original page at http://keystonewoodturners.com/wig-stand/.  The content has essentially been copied here because it may be easier to access because you are currently here, their challenge may eventually end, and their reference page could be removed in the future. This is not an attempt to take credit for the idea, or fail to give full credit to the Keystonewoodturners.com site. )

Keystone Woodturner members fall project is making wig stands for cancer patients. Shortly a cancer center will be named and the turner stands will be collected and delivered in the fall.

Generic wig stand dimensions are provided by Harry Pye. Harry looked on line at many sample stands and developed this generic pdf file as a guide.

  1. Our club, the Rocky Mountain Woodturners have made ~200 wigstands for cancer patients undergoing chemo therapy. We have donated stands to the American Cancer Society, the oncology departments to 3 local hospitals and to a cancer support group. One thing we do that has proved really popular with the patients is that we have had a good percentage of the wigstands painted by local artists including the Artists Collective of Loveland, CO, the Art Dept of the U of Northern Colorado and members, friends and family of our group.
